Innovation Driven: Canton Biologics Reinvents Human Resource Management in the AI Era

Drastic environmental changes, layoffs and restructuring, the rise of AI technology… 2023 was a year when HR professionals experienced pain but also hope. What new trends will HR face in 2024?

On March 20, a summit titled “Facing AI: Surging Forward – Human Resources Innovation Summit” was held in Guangzhou, drawing significant attention from the HR community. The summit was hosted by Liepin Group and brought together over 800 industry elites to discuss how AI is reshaping the HR industry and helping companies gain an edge in the talent competition of the new era. Lin Xiufen, HR Director of Canton Biologics, was invited to participate in a roundtable forum, where she joined Laura, General Manager of Liepin Guangzhou Branch, and Mo Yanjun, Head of Recruitment at Liby Group, to discuss “The Future Trends of AI in the HR Field.”

Q: In the face of the AI wave, do you think small organizations or large organizations will benefit first?

A: This is difficult to generalize.

Small organizations have fewer decision‑making layers and simpler structures, allowing them to make decisions and adjustments faster, thereby benefiting from AI more quickly.

Large organizations often have more resources and financial power, enabling them to invest in more complex and extensive AI systems and solutions. They may have advantages in data accumulation and technical infrastructure, allowing them to better use AI to improve internal processes and decision‑making.

In summary, both small and large organizations have opportunities to benefit from AI applications. The key lies in whether an organization can flexibly adapt and leverage AI to address its own challenges and opportunities.

Q: In your field, what positions have already been replaced by AI? Do you enjoy working alongside AI?

A: In our field, some highly repetitive and mechanical positions have already begun to be replaced by AI – for example, data processing, document organization, and customer service. AI technology can complete these tasks more efficiently, allowing human resources to focus on more creative and strategic work. At the same time, we have found that the more we use AI, the more accurate the database becomes. Currently, Canton Biologics has equipped all employees with AI assistant portals on their computers and continuously collects usage feedback.

Working with AI can improve efficiency, reduce workload, and provide more accurate data processing and prediction capabilities. However, in some cases, the use of AI may also raise concerns, such as its impact on human creativity and judgment. Therefore, views on AI technology vary from person to person.

Q: When AI can predict and make decisions, how does it change the role of managers? Does this mean that management positions will face a “Dunkirk” in the workplace?

A: When AI has predictive and decision‑making capabilities, the role of managers does indeed change. AI’s intelligent analysis and decision support can provide managers with more accurate and faster data and insights, helping them better formulate strategies and make decisions. Managers may focus more on interpreting AI‑generated data, optimizing outcomes, posing new questions, and driving innovation.

As for whether management positions will face a “Dunkirk” in the workplace, although AI may replace some aspects of human work, management often involves complex interpersonal relationships, innovation, strategic planning, and other areas that are difficult for AI to fully replace. The relationship between managers and AI is likely to be more collaborative and complementary than substitutionary. Managers can use the data and insights provided by AI to better guide their teams and organizations toward common goals.

Q: With continuous technological advancement, what role do you think AI will play in human resource management in the future?

A: AI will become a powerful tool in future HR management, bringing many changes and improvements:

  1. Recruitment and screening: By intelligently screening resumes, interviewing, and evaluating candidates, AI helps speed up the recruitment process, saving time and resources.

  2. Training and development: AI can customize training plans, providing personalized learning experiences based on employee performance and needs, thereby improving training effectiveness.

  3. Performance management: AI technology can analyze employee performance data, feedback, and goal achievement, providing managers with more objective, data‑driven performance evaluations.

  4. Employee experience: AI can improve the employee experience – for example, by providing real‑time feedback and support through intelligent assistants, simplifying processes, and increasing employee satisfaction.

  5. Data analysis and prediction: AI’s data analysis and predictive capabilities can help HR managers better understand trends, challenges, and opportunities within the organization, enabling them to make wiser decisions.

However, human judgment, emotional intelligence, and interpersonal skills remain crucial. AI will serve more as a tool to support and enhance HR management, rather than completely replacing the human role.

Q: Over the next five years, what do you think is the most important change that AI will bring to society and the workplace?

A: AI will profoundly impact society and the workplace, driving people to adapt more quickly to technological developments while also bringing more opportunities and challenges that require collective effort from the whole society.

  1. Automation and employment: The spread of AI technology will lead to greater automation of work. Some traditional repetitive jobs may disappear, while new job opportunities will emerge, requiring people to continuously update their skills to meet new occupational demands.

  2. Personalized services and experiences: Various industries will become more personalized and customized – from product recommendations to healthcare and education – and people will enjoy more intelligent service experiences.

  3. Data privacy and ethics: As AI applications expand, personal data privacy and ethical issues will become more prominent. Society will need to establish stricter data protection laws and norms.

  4. New industries and innovation: The development of AI technology will give rise to new industries and innovations – for example, autonomous vehicles, smart homes, biotechnology, and other fields will lead a new industrial revolution.

  5. Education and skills development: People will need to continuously learn and update their skills to meet the demands of the AI era. Education systems will need to adjust, emphasizing the cultivation of talent with creativity, collaboration, and adaptability.

Undoubtedly, AI will become the biggest megatrend globally over the next decade. As global attention on AI rises, we will enter a brand‑new intelligent world. Only those who actively embrace AI and master it will become the ultimate winners in the workplace.
